MY "LOCAL" FAVORITES!
(PART 2 of MY FAVORITES)
|
To read past issues of my column go to: http://www.lvol.com/garynews.html
So many choices!
Hotels, restaurants, attractions!
Things to see, things to do, from a LOCAL point of view!
My favorite LOCAL hotel is...SUNSET STATION!...of course!
Best decor; even better then many strip hotels! Mediterranean style with
sunset skies...it is simply beautiful. The Gaudi Bar (reminiscent of famous
architect Antonio Gaudi's style) is an awesome centerpiece to a very
attractive and comfortable casino.
The buffet is very good, though not the best in town, with several food
stations and a great variety of selections.
The Capri restaurant for Italian food is so quaint and intimate with its tree
filled patio.
Rosalitas for Mexican is very nice with an old mission décor throughout.
The Sonoma Cellars Steak House is amongst the best steakhouses in Vegas.
The Sunset Café, the Sunset Stations coffee shop style restaurant is very
good! Be sure to ask about the "off-menu" specials
great deals and great food!
The Viva Salsa "snack bar" is my top choice for a quick meal. The Steak
Nachos are wonderful, piled high
very high, serves 2 easily
and the price is
remarkably low!
Club Madrid, the "hot night spot" at Sunset is very nice with great
acoustics. Disco Fever plays 'disco' hits most nights at 10pm
so you can
"dance the night away"!
Great gambling
lots of nickel VP and slots, great table games
without a doubt
my favorite spot in Vegas.
Check out Sunset Stations website at: http://www.sunsetstation.com
My favorite spot for a quick microbrew?
Barley's Brewery and Casino.
Barley's is a nice little microbrewery owned by Stations casinos.
Good gambling
though I have only lost there recently
they have good machines
and good table games. The Barley's Café has very good food with a very nice
salad bar. Worth a stop when traveling down Sunset Rd. Located in the Town
Center at Green Valley Parkway and Sunset Rd. The town center includes an
open-air patio area with several restaurants around it, and a water fountain
in the middle. Kids love to jump around in the fountain, as water jets shoot
streams of water into the air. A nice spot to relax and to have a drink or a
snack.
Best local bar/pub?
Recently we walked into Thirstbusters on Sunset Rd. at Valley Verde (1 mile
east of Barley's, and 1 mile west of Sunset Station. They have 100's of beer
choices, and I drink very rarely, but my favorite beer is St. Pauli girl,
dark. The bar/pub has several countertop VP machines, and bar top machines,
and we seem to do pretty well on these machines. Thirstbusters is a very
clean little place with good service. Thirstbusters is in my opinion, the
best bar/pub environment at this end of town. We like it!
Boulder Station has a nice lounge called the Railhead. The Railhead always
has good music, excellent acoustics, and is a nice 'open' room. We used to
really like the Boulder Station Casino, then came Sunset!
Non-hotel restaurants we enjoy:
The Macaroni Grill on Stephanie Rd. across from Sunset Station is very good,
Excellent food, reasonable prices, great service.
Joe's Crab Shack on Sunset Rd. at Green Valley Parkway is a fun environment
with good seafood. Best for "birthday parties" and such, this is a wild
atmosphere with dancing and singing servers. Check out the great Joe's web
site at: http://www.joescrabshack.com
McCormick and Shmicks is very good for seafood. Located on E. Flamingo Rd.
about 1/2 mile east of the strip. Next door is Cozymels, a great place for
southwestern fare. Around the corner from these two, on Paradise Rd., is P.
F. Changs China Bistro. P. F. Changs is one of our favorite places for an
unusual meal in a great "eclectic" atmosphere.
My favorite buffet:
My favorite off-strip buffet is the Fiesta. The Fiesta buffet, with it's
several food stations, includes some great Cajun dishes, a 'coffee bar' for
your favorite styles of coffee, and great international selections. The
desserts are superb!
My favorite local band is "Funnesse". Appearing now at the Casbar Lounge at
the Sahara
check them out! Be sure to tell 'Crazy Ray' that "Gary" sent you!
My favorite local lounge performer is 'Earl Turner'. Earl is a great showman
and puts on a wonderfully uplifting show! Earl is currently playing evenings
at The Minstrel Lounge at the Excalibur. Earl Turner is a must see while in
Vegas!
When guests from out of town come to Vegas we take them to:
The Forum Shops at Caesar's
The Fremont St. Experience
The Venetian
The Adventure Dome at Circus Circus (if they have kids in tow).
The Lake Mead Marina (We love to feed popcorn to the hundreds of catfish and
striper begging for a morsel at the end of the dock).
The Hoover Dam
awesome!
My Favorite Mall:
The Galleria at Sunset is the newest and nicest mall in Las Vegas.
Perhaps you realize that most of our favorite spots are in Henderson, NV!
Only 8 miles from the strip, Henderson has it all. This is the reason my
family and I chose to live in Henderson (Green valley). Everything is new and
fresh and fun and exciting!
Check out Henderson during YOUR next visit to Las Vegas. You'll love it!
Henderson is my favorite place to live
I do know that living within throwing distance of Las Vegas has a great deal
to do with it.
I love the Las Vegas Valley!
